- If you do not have an access code then you will need to purchase the access code online from the website.
- Follow the prompts to register for Mastering Chemistry. When selecting your textbook for the course, choose: Chemistry-a Molecular Approach, 3rd edition by N. Tro.
- Once registered, you must log in to your account and enroll in your course. You can find your course by entering the course ID “WNCCHEM121S1011SP14”. Be sure to use your last name exactly as it appears to Admissions and Records! Mistakes means you will have to re-do assignments and may lose credit! - “Assignments” consist of chapter Homework and Quizzes. Homework assignments will be due by 11:59 PM on most Sundays and Wednesdays - you must check the due dates. 50% per day per item will be subtracted for late homework. Quizzes are available starting Friday night and must be finished by 10 AM Tuesday at which time the correct answers will be displayed. (Quizzes cannot be done late.) Note: the last assignment must be finished by its due date.
- Do not forget to submit
the first assignment, Intro to Mastering Chemistry, by Sunday,
January 26 at 11:59 PM. This assignment is to familiarize you with the Mastering Chemistry program. You will receive full credit for completing this assignment regardless of opened hints and incorrect answers as long as you submit an answer to every problem in the assignment and finish the assignment before the due time and date. - If you have problems using Mastering Chemistry or answering the questions, try to resolve them early. For technical issues you should first contact Pearson Support from the login page; then you can let me know about it. You can get help from me via email or before class and from the free tutoring etc. I will gladly help you as long as it’s not on the due day of the assignment (i.e. try to finish the home early -don’t wait till the minute!)

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to press “Submit” after every question?
- Once I open an assignment,
do I have to complete all of the questions at one time?
No. You can complete any assignment in separate sessions. All questions that you have received a “Correct” for will be saved. You just need to complete the assignment by the due date to avoid losing 50% per day.
- Can I
submit an assignment after its due date/time?
- Can I
submit individual items of an assignment late?
Yes. If less than 2 days late, you will get partial credit for the items submitted and your total score for the assignment will go up. (see example below, #5.)
- Is the
late penalty scaled to a fraction of a day?
Yes. For example if you are 8 hours late on a 1-point item that you answer correctly, then (8/24)x(50%) = 16.7% of one point (0.167 points) would be deducted. You would receive 1.00 - 0.167 = 0.83 points for doing that item, and your total score for the chapter assignment would go up by 0.83 points.
- Can I go back and rework problems for extra practice after the due date?
Yes; you are encouraged you to do so. Just understand that your scores will not be changed after items have already been submitted.
NOTES:
- Don’t
wait till the due date to start an assignment. You gain a lot more from the homework by
finishing it well before the due date.
- No work on any assignment may be done after 11:59 PM on the due date of the last assignment.
